Abstract
In the present study, a displacement discontinuity method with crack-tip elements presented by the author is adopted to study a finite main crack interaction with an arbitrarily oriented microdefect. Test examples are included to illustrate the numerical approach is very effective for analyzing an interaction between a crack and a defect. The present numerical results can reveal the effect of the microdefect form and the microdefect size relative to the finite main crack one on the finite main crack interaction with microdefect.
