Abstract
This paper is concerned with the deformation of inhomogeneous orthotropic cylinders. The work is motivated by the recent interest on the functionally graded materials. We assume that the elastic coefficients are independent of the axial coordinate. First, we study the Saint-Venant problem. Then we consider the case when the cylinder is subjected to body forces and surfaces tractions on the lateral surface. The results are applied to study the deformation of a circular cylinder with a given inhomogeneity.
