Abstract
A two-dimensional (2D) higher order formulation that takes into account the extension–twist coupling, and bending behaviour of the cord, is presented for the static and dynamic analysis of cord-composite plates. The cords are represented by an equivalent geometrical surface having the mechanical characteristics including bending property and the coupling between twist–extension. The equations of motion and boundary conditions are formulated using the principle of virtual works. Static examples are done to show when a high order model should be used.
