Non-covalently aggregated zinc and cadmium complexes derived from substituted aromatic carboxylic acids: Synthesis, spectroscopy, and structural studies

Zn(OAc)(2,2′-bpy)2(ClO4)(H2O) and [Cd(OAc)(2,2′-bpy)2](ClO4)(2H2O) were used as starting points for the synthesis a series of Zn(II) and Cd(II) carboxylate complexes that are monomeric. A number of hydrogen bonding interactions coupled with π-π stacking result in interesting Supramolecular motif, which range from 1-D polymeric chain to 3-D framework lattices.
