Abstract
⺠A series of fluorescein-based metal-binding compounds are presented. ⺠Boronate ester prochelators react with H2O2 to give fluorescent chelators. ⺠Fe3+ and Cu2+ quench chelator fluorescence, while Ni2+, Co2+, and Zn2+ less so. ⺠Cell-permeable prochelator FloB-SI responds to H2O2 by a decrease in fluorescence. ⺠FloB-SI response in cells suggests intracellular metal binding after H2O2 stress.
