Abstract
Haptoglobin binding to hemoglobin is crucial to prevent extra-erythrocytic hemoglobin-induced damage; in turn, haptoglobin:hemoglobin complexes display heme-based reactivity catalyzing the conversion of NO2â to NO, which is followed by heme-Fe(II) nitrosylation.154
