Abstract
A peroxynitrite scavenger, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrinato iron(III) chloride (FeTPPS), catalyzes tyrosine nitration in bovine serum albumin, rat brain homogenate and cultured cells in the presence of H2O2 and NO2−. Interestingly, hydrophilic FeTPPS can catalyze tyrosine nitration in hydrophilic sites, whereas hydrophobic porphyrin heme can only catalyze tyrosine nitration in hydrophobic sites.332
