Abstract
Humanlike A81I and G83V substitutions to yeast iso-1-cytochrome c slow alkaline isomerization and decrease the peroxidase activity of cytochrome c at pHâ¯7 and 8, which is important early in apoptosis. Acid-induced isomerization can also increase access to conformers competent for peroxidase activity.328
