Abstract
A reliable method to produce iron-free apoferritin is proposed after studying iron removal from ferritin using different reduction pH conditions and chelating agents. This method removes 99% of iron with 70-80% protein recovery. Biocompatible apoferritin for biomedical and nanotechnological applications is produced with no use of denaturing agents.119
