Abstract
The ratio of activities of copper-substituted and native zinc lethal factor can be optimized by the careful choice of buffer, ionic strength, substrate and pH, yielding values as high as 40. The pH profile of the copper protein suggests a copper-bound water molecule as the active species in the mechanism.127
