Abstract
Novel hexadentate chelators based on 1-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridinone and a triaza macrocyclic core have been synthesised. Their class of chelator is shown for the first time to have biostatic activity against pathogenic bacteria that approaches or matches the most powerful Fe(III) chelator known (1,4,7-tris(3-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane).45
