Abstract
Binding 7-(4-(decanoyl)piperazin-1-yl)-ciprofloxacin, CipA, an analogue of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin, to [Ru(η6-p-cymene)Cl2]2 yields a novel multi-functional complex [Ru(η6-p-cymeme)(CipA-H)Cl which is highly cytotoxic in several cancer cell lines while also retaining moderate and dose-dependent anti-microbial activity in Escherichia coli and its clinical isolate (resistant to 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation β-lactam antibiotics).159
