Abstract
► We isolated microsatellite loci to assess Aechmea caudata genetic diversity. ► The ten new loci revealed high degrees of genetic diversity and transferability. ► These loci are the first set of microsatellite described for the Aechmea genus. ► A. caudata is genetically diverse but present small natural populations. ► To avoid A. caudata extinction, conservation actions are needed.
