Abstract
► Cyt b, GHR and IRBP genes were used to elaborate the phylogenetic positions of Proedromys. ► Proedromys is not monophyletic as it is currently recognized. ► Proedromys bedfordi was separated from the genus Microtus, formed a well-supported clade. ► The position of Proedromys liangshanensis was unstable due to low-moderately supported value. ► Dramatic geological and climatic changes had promoted speciation.
