Abstract
- Cymbopogon citratus is a well-known herbal medicinal plant for its essential oils.
- The study highlights isolation, structure and biological activities of these polysaccharides.
- Polysaccharides have anticancer activity in a time- and dose-dependent manner.
- Polysaccharide fractions induced apoptosis in human cancer cells by the mitochondria mediated pathways.
- Use of these plant polysaccharides as potential apoptosis inducing agents against cancer cells is discussed.
