Abstract
- The structural characterization and the anticoagulant potential a heparin/heparan sulfate-like compound isolated from the heads of Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp are described.
- The described compound shares structural features with both heparin, and with heparan sulfate.
- The compound thermostabilizes human native antithrombin.
- In contrast to mammalian heparin, the shrimp compound displayed negligible hemorrhagic effect.
