Synthesis of part structures of Cryptococcus neoformans serotype C capsular polysaccharide

Orthogonally protected 2,4-di-O-substituted mannose trisaccharide building blocks were prepared and used in the synthesis of fragments of the capsular polysaccharide of Cryptococcus neoformans serotype C. The modular approach allowed for the synthesis of the octasaccharide structural motif for the first time.
