Abstract
The axisymmetrical contact problem of pressure of a rigid sphere into a layered half-space with periodic structure is considered. The results obtained by using the classical elasticity and the homogenized model are compared. The range of problem parameters for which, the homogenized model stands for a good description of layered composites is presented. The contact parameters in which the homogenized model gives adequate large errors are also calculated.
