Abstract
A Dy3+:Na2Gd4(MoO4)7 crystal was successfully grown by the Czochralski method. Absorption spectra, emission spectra, and fluorescence decay curve of the crystal were measured at room temperature. The peak absorption cross sections of the 6H15/2â4I15/2 transition were 1.5â¯Ãâ¯10-21 and 2.6â¯Ãâ¯10-21 cm2 for Ï and Ï polarizations, respectively, and both at 454â¯nm. The peak emission cross sections of the 4F9/2â6H13/2 transition were calculated to be 0.97â¯Ãâ¯10-20 and 1.16â¯Ãâ¯10-20 cm2 for Ï and Ï polarizations, respectively, and both at 574â¯nm. The fluorescence lifetime and quantum efficiency of the 4F9/2 multiplet were estimated to be 152â¯Î¼s and 56.7%, respectively. The results show that the Dy3+:Na2Gd4(MoO4)7 crystal may be a potential gain medium of 574â¯nm yellow laser pumped by a blue laser diode.
