Abstract
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are considered as the silent killers due to their bio-accumulative and long persistent natures. These are present everywhere in our environment including plants, animals and human beings. These are responsible for various lethal diseases and environmental problems. The different diseases due to POPs are diabetes, obesity, endocrine disturbance, cancer, cardiovascular, reproductive and environmental problems. The scientists, Governments and NGOs are very much concerned with POPs pollution and hazards. The present article describes the recent studies on the health and environmental problems due to pollution of POPs. Besides, future prospectives, convention and regulation, control and removal measures of POPs have also been discussed.
