Abstract
In this work, the effect of solidification rate on the formation of core-shell structure of ternary Al60Bi24Sn16 monotectic alloy was investigated by casting the melt into the copper mold with different ingate diameter (4, 6 and 8â¯mm). It was found that as the solidification rate increases, the formed crystal core of the minor phase is separated from the matrix phase in a shorter time and quickly converges, resulting in the relatively regular core-shell morphology. The phase transition behavior of Al60Bi24Sn16 monotectic alloy was studied by thermal analysis, and the results were in good agreement with the microstructure morphology. Different solidification morphologies show that the solidification behavior of ternary Al60Bi24Sn16 monotectic alloy is very sensitive to the solidification rate.
