Abstract
► The line tension as a new characteristic of a crack is introduced and evaluated. ► A generalized Gibbs energy is introduced for describing loaded solids. ► Conformal and depth mechanisms of crack growth are comparatively studied. ► The fracture criterion is reconsidered with account of the crack line tension. ► Numerical calculations are performed for solids with dispersion forces.
