Abstract
Carbon/carbon composites modified by HfC-SiC, HfC-SiC:ZrC-SiC (2:1), HfC-SiC:ZrC-SiC (1:2) and ZrC-SiC were ablated by oxyacetylene torch to investigate the effect of doped ceramic particles. Results indicated that the 1:2 possessed the lowest three point bending strength and the best anti-ablation property. The ablated surface morphologies showed that the SiC-ZrC-HfC modified carbon/carbon composites had compact polygon structures while the SiC-HfC and SiC-ZrC modified were porous. It was considered that both the structural parameters and thermal expansion of ZrO2 and HfO2 led to the above difference.
