Abstract
The inhibition effect of Gum Arabic (GA) on the corrosion of API 5L X42 pipeline steel in 1 M HCl solution was investigated for the first time by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization curves, the results show that GA is a good inhibitor in 1 M HCl. The maximum percentage inhibition efficiency was found to be 92% at 2 g Lâ1. The adsorption of GA on pipeline API 5L X42 steel surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and involves physical adsorption. Polarization curves reveal that GA acts as a mixed-type inhibitor in hydrochloride acid.
