Abstract
In the present study, the corrosion behavior of AXJ530 magnesium alloy with different iron and manganese contents is investigated in 3.5Â wt% sodium chloride solution in order to tailor the tolerance limit of Fe impurity in the magnesium alloy. Through a comprehensive phase diagram calculation and corrosion evaluation, the mechanisms for the tolerance limit of Fe in magnesium alloys are discussed. The study adds a new dimension to controlling the Mg alloy impurity in terms of alloying composition design and casting conditions.
