Abstract
► Hf(Ta)C coating was co-deposited on C/C composites with HfCl4-TaCl5-CH4-H2-Ar system. ► The Hf(Ta)C coating is a biphasic coating consisting of HfC and HfTaC2. ► Hf(Ta)C coating exhibits a favorable ablation resistance. ► The HfTaC2 phase can promote the formation of a dense and tenacious oxide layer.
