Abstract
⺠The corrosion rate is low when steel is exposed to anaerobic conditions (pH = 8.9). ⺠An anaerobic to aerobic corrosion with sulfide switch increases the corrosion rate. ⺠Aerobic exposure induces the formation of goethite-covered tubercles. ⺠Continual sulfide exposure leads to the slow conversion of goethite to mackinawite.
