Abstract
► Biomedical 316LVM hardened by active screen and DC plasma carburising. ► Augmentation of pitting and crevice corrosion resistance by plasma carburising. ► Active screen increases crevice corrosion resistance of the steel by 98%. ► DC carburising increases crevice corrosion resistance of the steel by 39%. ► No crevice corrosion is observed on the carburised specimens at 800 mV (SCE).
