Abstract
Here, the effect of ion irradiation on the structure and mechanical properties of a Ti-based metallic glass has been studied. The samples maintains amorphous nature after ion irradiation. The irradiated glass exhibits higher hardness and Young's modulus, and higher indent load at first pop-in event, which can be interpreted from the perspective of atomic-scale structural evolution. The results obtained here indicate that ion irradiation can be considered as a powerful method to finely tune the microstructure and properties of metallic glasses.
