Abstract
A Pulse Tube Expander (PTE) for small and medium capacity cryogenic refrigeration systems is described in this paper. An analysis of the Pulse Tube Expander is developed based on the thermodynamic analyses of the system. It is shown that the gas expansion is isentropic in the cold end of the pulse tube. The temperature variation at the outlet of Pulse Tube Expander is measured and the isentropic efficiency is calculated to be 0.455 at 2â¯Hz. The pressure oscillations in the pulse tube are obtained at different frequencies. The limitations and advantages of this system are also discussed.
