Abstract
The corrosion behaviors of Zr58.5Ti14.3Nb5.2Cu6.1Ni4.9Be11.0 metallic glass matrix composites (MGMCs) in different NaCl solutions were investigated. Various corrosion tests including potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and chemical immersion concordantly demonstrate that the corrosion resistance of the composites is peaked at 5% NaCl solution. The further SEM morphology examinations supported the above observation. It is proposed that the reason of difference corrosion behavior versus NaCl concentration is related to the change of oxygen content in the salt solution. The possible dynamic corrosion process in the Zr-based MGMCs is discussed combining the elemental composition characterization results.
