Abstract
ⶠEffect of peritectic centerline macro-segregation is firstly observed and modeled in the directionally solidified Ti-46Al-8Nb (at.%) intermetallic. ⶠSegregation effect appearance and development is explained from the positions of hydrodynamics, heat- and mass transfer of rejected Al solute in the melt. ⶠConvection-induced nature of segregation is demonstrated, followed by the peritectic transformation of local Al-enriched area in the solid correspondingly to the phase diagram. ⶠNumerical estimation of the technologically valuable local conditions of solidification process is performed which causes the undesirable segregation event.
