Abstract
We report on an OFDM-RoF-PON system based on novel optical coupling single-sideband (O-SSB) modulation for one wavelength carrying one baseband and two radio frequency (RF) signals. The impact of nonlinear distortion consisting of harmonic distortion (HD) and intermodulation distortion (IMD) in this system is theoretically investigated. Transmission over 0Â km and 40Â km of standard single mode fiber is successfully demonstrated and it is indicated that modulation index 0.6 is more adapted to O-SSB modulation. The error vector magnitude (EVM) of system based on O-SSB modulation after transmission over 40Â km is <0.1. For O-SSB modulation, bit error rate (BER) after 40Â km transmission is below forward error correction (FEC) limit of 10â3.
