Abstract
A waveband-tunable supercontinuum laser based on an erbium-doped fiber-ring cavity (EDFRC) has been demonstrated. A tunable filter is proposed to insert into the EDFRC for waveband-tunable performances. The nonlinear-polarization-rotation intensity-dependent-loss (NPR-IDL) is proposed to suppress homogenous broadening effect in the EDFRC. The stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) is proposed to expand lasing spectra for longer wavelengths. The proposed schemes in the EDFRC have worked well together to achieve a supercontinuum fiber laser with waveband-tunable performances. The tunable wavebands could be tuned to four types of interesting bandwidths of 35 nm (1530-1565 nm), of 54 nm (1558-1612 nm), of 93 nm (1525-1618 nm), and of 155 nm (1525-1680 nm), which could, respectively, cover C-band, L-band, C+L-band, and C+L+U-band.
