Abstract
An all-optical microwave frequency division and multiplication by synchronized semiconductor laser diodes has been proposed and analyzed in this paper. Nonlinear characteristics of synchronized semiconductor lasers are used for microwave frequency division and multiplication. On the basis of transmission line model of the laser diode, a fundamental microwave frequency and its sub-harmonic are generated analytically. The relative intensity noise of the mixing lightwaves is reduced by several orders of magnitude leading to the generation of low-noise subharmonic signal due to the injection locking technique.
