Abstract
In this paper, a new technique using slowly variable Fourier coefficients and the asymptotic Landau–Ginzburg approach are re-discussed and compared. The aim is to define simple macroscopic models describing the influence of local wrinkling on membrane behaviour. This question is analyzed by considering the simple example of a beam resting on a non-linear Winkler foundation.
