Abstract

In the present study, the processes of component constitution, preparation, mechanical performance and the structure of Ti(C,N)-based cermets were studied. A 3D elastic-plastic finite element model (FEM) of metal orthogonal cutting was built based on the theory of the update Lagrange formulation. By changing the tool rake angle, the magnitude of tool wear, cutting temperature and the distribution of effective stress under different rake angles were calculated. The results of numerical simulation were in agreement with the experiments. It was concluded that the optimum rake angle of Ti(C,N)-based cermets cutter was 10° when cutting normalized AISI1045 steel.
