Abstract
This paper describes research on the isothermal enclosed die forging technology of an aluminium part with a deep central cavity and irregular shape. The formation of a lap was investigated with the help of QFORM-3D finite-element code, and the optimum conditions of enclosed die forging determined. The results of finite-element (FE) simulation were compared to experiment and good compatibility of results was obtained. The die set for experimental forging was designed according to the FE simulation results.
