Abstract
A new type of ceramic-coated stainless steel puncture needle was developed and the therapeutic performance of the needle in the biopsy was evaluated by a combination of optical interference microscopy study and transmission electron microscopy study of extracted tissue specimens. It is confirmed that the newly developed puncture needle is both chemically and physically more sharp compared to the conventional needle and is therefore more patient-friendly. For a huge number of patients suffering from, for example, carcinomas, the newly developed ceramic-coated stainless steel puncture needle would offer a remarkably accessible and effective biopsy.
