Abstract
A new version of equal-channel angular extrusion (ECAE), called equal-channel angular hydroextrusion (ECAH), and the double-angle ECAH facility were proposed. The characteristic property of ECAH process is extruding the billet through the die channel by the fluid pressure. Unlike ECAE, the proposed novel ECAH technology allows for processing of much longer billets as the relative extent of the billet–die contact is dramatically reduced. A method of calculating the ECAE extrusion pressure accounting for the friction effects along with the material hardening was introduced. Using the estimated values of the friction coefficient, the calculated ECAH pressure was in a good agreement with the experimentally measured one.
