Abstract
TiO2 nanocrystals coated with a thin layer of amorphous carbon displays 10-time rate improvement in lithium-ion battery and 4-time enhancement in photocatalytic decomposition of organic dye molecules. This is due to lower lithium ion diffusion and electronic conduction resistance across the carbon layer into the TiO2 electrode material, and better adsorption of the dye molecules and ions on the surface.
