In this paper, an optimum die fillet design for minimizing the maximum difference in extruded fin lengths of straight-fin heat sink extrusion is proposed. The fillets on the extrusion die openings are chosen as the optimizing parameters of the extrusion process first, and then the experimental design of Taguchi method is employed to draw a layout of orthogonal array. According to the Taguchi parameter design method, the process parameters are changed to minimize the maximum difference in extruded fin lengths of straight-fin heat sink extrusion. After optimization, an optimal level of the design parameters (die fillets) is obtained, and the maximum difference in extruded fin lengths is also predicted. Finally, the consistency between prediction and simulation in the difference in extruded fin lengths is confirmed.
