Abstract

Tungstophosphoric acid (TPA) was intercalated in magnetic nickel aluminium hydrotalcite-like compounds (NAH) by direct intercalation via ion exchange method and the materials were characterized by TG–DSC, XRD, FT-IR, TEM, SEM, Raman and VSM techniques. XRD results revealed intercalation of TPA species, which is further corroborated by the presence of these Keggin ions by FT-IR and Raman. TG–DSC results indicated that higher thermal stability of the obtained materials was related to the presence of Keggin ions in the NAH. The catalytic activity of the prepared catalysts was tested for the isopropanol reaction. The effect of reaction temperature on the conversion and selectivity of TPA-NAH was studied and the findings are discussed. The samples synthesized at 180 °C showed highest catalytic activity in isopropanol reaction.
