Abstract
Indentation of a quenched center bevel blade to a white-coated paperboard on three kinds of stainless steel counter plate, of which the hardness was respectively 220, 378 and 510 HV, was carried out experimentally by varying the applied load and the cutting times in order to investigate the deformation characteristics of the blade tip and the counter plate. Through this research, it was found that there was appropriate mechanical condition for the combination of the counter plate and the center bevel blade. An estimation method of the critical load for generation of dent on the counter plate was clarified for a short time cutting, and a transition process of crushing on the blade tip was shown for a long time cutting.
