Abstract

By describing a complex cover panel shape with NURBS surface, according to the classification of a point on surface determined by the Gauss curvature, the proportion of mid-surface area between before and after it developed is derived. Hereby, based on the curve development theory of differential geometry, a novel diagonal point by point surface development method is put forward to estimate efficiently and reasonably a complex cover panel's blank contour shape. Its validity and rationality are verified by comparing the samples’ development contour obtained from the diagonal point by point surface development method with those of one-step method and their stamping simulation results.
