Abstract
Using a microsegregation model, the relationship between the solidus fraction and temperature in the twin-roll strip casting process was obtained. A coupled three-dimensional flow and heat transfer model was developed to simulate the twin-roll strip casting process by the finite element method. The two-equation k−ɛ model was used to incorporate the turbulence in fluid flow. The effect of the casting speed, pouring temperature of melt, and roll gap on the flow and temperature field was predicted. The simulation results were compared with the experimental results, and they are in good agreement.
