Abstract
The validity of strain-induced martensite transformation (SIMT) in enhancing fracture behavior of Cr-Ni weld metal is related to temperature and stress state. Its valid range with respect to the two parameters is given. When brittle fracture is partially or completely transformed into ductile fracture by SIMT, the effect of SIMT on fracture strain is valid; but when SIMT cannot change fracture mode and fracture mode remains ductile, the validity of SIMT in improving fracture strain cannot be determined only by fracture mode.
