Abstract
URu0.29Ge2 is a new germanide crystallizing in a monoclinic structure (C2/c space group, lattice parameters: aâ¯=â¯4.098(1) Ã
, bâ¯=â¯15.936(3) Ã
, câ¯=â¯4.045(1) Ã
and βâ¯=â¯90.091(2)°) derived from the CeNiSi2-type. It undergoes a ferromagnetic ordering at TCâ¯=â¯63â¯K, which manifests itself as distinct anomalies in temperature variations of the magnetization, specific heat and electrical resistivity. Just below TC, the T-dependent resistivity exhibits a broad hump, which hints at complex magnetic structure of the compound, while below 5â¯K it shows an upturn that likely arises due to atomic disorder in the crystal lattice.
