Abstract
A straightforward application of the Jacobi test is used to establish the stability of all equilibrium configurations of a cantilever rod with a free end and sliding end. It is demonstrated that in both cases, only the forms produced by the first critical load can be stable, while all other equilibrium forms are unstable. The results are presented on bifurcation diagrams.
