Abstract
The 600 and 800â¯Â°C isothermal the sections of Al-Si-La ternary system between 0 and 50â¯at.% La have been established via a combination of electron microprobe analysis and X-ray powder diffraction. A total of three ternary compounds were confirmed in this work and temporally designated Ï1, Ï2 and Ï3. The three ternary compounds (Ï1-Ï3) were found at 600â¯Â°C. The ternary phase Ï1 spans 43.3â¯at.% to 61.5â¯at.% Al, 5.0â¯at.% to 21.3â¯at.% Si, and 33.5â¯at.% to 35.5â¯at.% La. One ternary compound, Ï1, was identified at 800â¯Â°C. The Ï1 phase spans 43.6â¯at.% to 62.6â¯at.% Al, 4.1â¯at.% to 22.5â¯at.% Si, and 33.1â¯at.% to 35.2â¯at.% La. The solubility of Al in LaSi2-α2 is 39.9â¯at.% and 41.3â¯at.% at 600 and 800â¯Â°C, respectively. The solubility of Si in Al2La at both 600 and 800â¯Â°C is extremely small.
